The excavations uncovered a prehistoric graveyard that contained hundreds of bodies dating from between 5,000 and 7,000 years ago.

What Are The Different Kinds Of Mummies?

There are different kinds of mummies, but most of them are one of two types: natural mummies and intentional mummies.

Natural Mummies are made when a human or creature is normally safeguarded. This can be done by using the environment to naturally preserve the body (dry desert heat, cold glaciers, etc.), or by the body’s own defense mechanisms (pH in the body prevents bacterial decay).

When mummies were first created, they were intended as a way to preserve bodies for use in the afterlife. Popular leaders and notable individuals were Mummified in the beginning so they could continue to be worshipped.

Over time, however, mummies were used as a display of wealth and power. In fact, many of the most famous mummies that exist today were buried with ornate jewelry and other valuable objects that their owners intended to use in the afterlife.

How Mummies Were Created?

The ancient Egyptians mummified their Dead Ones and preserved them by wrapping them in linen and overlaying the body with natron salts. The process took seventy days and would begin with the removal of vital organs. 

The body was then washed and enveloped by cloth, with treating liquid applied to the skin. It is believed that the embalmers put pieces of molten resin into the nostrils to staunchly stop the flow of fluid from the nose.

Mummies were usually buried in tombs beneath Pyramids or, later, with animal-headed gods, though some were placed directly in underground pits.

The process of mummification has been around for roughly 5,000 years, and it has been practiced by cultures all over the world. The techniques and materials used to create mummies have varied over the millennia and so has their purpose.
